Program Assistant Kelly Rapple breaks a box of diapers down into smaller packages in the warehouse at CPO.
In 2010 The Beehive Collective awarded a grant to Catholic Charities of Raleigh to hire a part-time warehouse manager for its food pantry. The group, established in North Carolina in 1898, provides social services without regard to race, creed, national origin, disability, age, etc. It is a member agency of Catholic Charities, U.S.A., the largest social service network in the nation. The pantry provides seven to 10 days worth of groceries to hungry families, as well as providing maternity and children’s clothing for children to the age of four.
Catholic Charities needed a part-time warehouse manager to help insure that food is placed in the refrigerator immediately to help reduce spoilage rate. “The group also needed someone to follow-up with clients in a new effort to assist them in completing applications for food stamps.” As a result of the Beehive grant, Catholic Charities was able to hire Kelly Rappl in March, 2011.
