WakeUP Wake County won the 2011 large grant of $20,000! WakeUP promotes good growth planning and sustainable communities through education, advocacy and civic engagement, advancing a higher quality of life for all.

WakeUP used Beehive funds to run a public education campaign to promote the Wake County Transit Plan (released in 2011) – a component of the regional transit vision that connects the Triangle by bus, commuter and light rail.  WakeUP’s message promotes public transportation as future under Triple Bottom Line Sustainability because a viable public transportation system improves our overall regional sustainability by growing the economy, protecting the environment and open space, conserving energy use, improving public health and creating vibrant centers for dense, walkable communities that connect to job, education and research centers via public transportation.
